I want to upgrade my Acer aspire v3-731-4473. It has a Pentium B960 (35W).
Can I upgrade to a Core i7 3820QM (45W)? Or have I to be limited to 35W processors, like a Core i7 3612QM (35W)?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you for your answer.
I've toke a look to this question: link
I think that my model have the same motherboard, so, if the answer there is correct, I can change my CPU, and put an Ivy Bridge processor to my laptop. Tehy talk about the 35W limitation, but I'm not sure if more preocessor consumpition will only drain more battery, or if will be incompatible.
Regards,
EDIT: in the service manual you linked, in page 15, Features-Platform, there is a list of CPUs. Assuming that the motherboard is unique, could be the list of CPUs that I can use to upgrade?

Passmark shows different sockets for the B960 and the 3820QM. The B960 is a pin grid array, and the 3820QM is a ball grid array (soldered).

This video proves that the CPU is upgradable in this laptop. He is upgrading to a i7 2630QM, wich has a 45W TPD. So I assume that I can use 45W microprocessors.

The laptop is using the HM77 chipset, wich support Ivy Bridge processors. So, without limitation to use 45W TPD micros, and without limitation to use Ivy Bridge processors, the only remaining obstacle would be the BIOS. Wich micros would be supported by the BIOS? To avoid risks at this point, I will limitate my search to the microprocessors referenced in the service manual, althought many other micros should be compatible. I'm going to search for a used 3720QM or a 3610QM.
Thank you all for your help. I will come back with the final result of the upgrade.
