Solution
You also need to consider your monitor resolution and current power supply. If you're using a 1080p monitor and 500 watt PSU, a GTX 970 might be a better choice. With a larger PSU, you could use an R9 390/390X, and would work well at 1440p. The GTX 980 just isn't worth the price premium over the 390X. You're also running into the limits of your CPU unless you overclock it.

Very true. If your monitor is under 1080p or you don't intend to game at very high settings then you could even get away with getting a 380X.

I would like to use VR in the future and i think the 970 or 390 is going to required but i like nvida but the 390 is just better right?

Depends on the wattage of your power supply. Can you reply with the total wattage and how long you've been using it? Generally you can subtract 15-20watts per year because of the aging process.

500 watts 2 or 3 years
