Hello peopkle Ive been looking for some headphones for music (I do not want a mic in it) my budget is $180 and it can go over by about $20. It needs to be able to handle all the different types of music. I dont want bass headphones theres just too much of it. Over the head and full ear coverage with whatever you want to call to block outside noise. One of the headphones I looked at are the bose Ae2 which sound pretty good. Theres just too many headphones out there. :)

i've owned a pair of the sub $200 (non noise cancelling) bose headphones. they were okay i suppose but i've never had anything decent to compare them with. the noise cancelling ones i tried out distorted the sound way too much with noise cancelling on.

since you have a decent budget you might want to look at the same product i am currently looking into, the Audio Technica ATH-M50(S). It is a studio monitor headset which means although it can deliver punchy bass it is pretty equal across the board and comes very highly recommended by people across hifi forums. apparently since the speakers are only like 30-35ohm resistance you dont even need an amp to drive them and powering them from a pc or mp3 player works fine. though, if you amp them you might get more punch bass and a little more juice out of them, its not required at all from what people more knowledgeable than me (and who actually own the headset) say.

Another major contender to think about is the Shure SRH840.

see the below post (its one of many such ones on the internet)

i'm going to be looking into these headphones hopefully today if they have them in stock. Keep in mind that everyone has their own opinion and as always it can vary. what i like might not be what you like, i'm just passing on what i was thinking about purchasing and that quite alot of people out there put it on the top few list for the under $200 category.

thanks for the input im really big on audio, the current headphones i have are pretty good but one of the buds is held on with duct tape so it was another excuse to buy a new one :p ill look into those thx

i actually just bought the m50's. the sound quality compared to the bose is phenomenal. definitely worth the $160 i paid retail (though i've heard you can get it online for less!)

all headphones are plastic nowdays but these appear to be built pretty sturdy. they fold up so that the headphones fit up into the arc of the headrest which is nice. it uses a single cord design on the left side and the cord is heavy gage (which is a huge plus for me!).

the unit comes with a large headphone plug but the tip screws off so that you can use the normal sized headphone jacks. the only issue is that the headphone plug is a little wide so i have to pull my phone out of the case to use it as a player (but it fits into the headphone slot on my hard ipod case just fine, strange). not a huge deal as i could probably find something to work (or just trim the rubber case a bit).

overall definitely a good pair for the money!
