Wild Bill <wbarry@home.com> shaped the electrons to say:
>I am sorry to be stupid, but what is replay TV. I have Digital cable
>TV and Satellite. I have DVD recorders but no Tivo Like units. Is
>replay TV like a Tivo for Cable TV and where can I get
>one.....thankx.............
You're question actually doesn't make a lot of sense at face value.
'Is ReplayTV like a Tivo for Cable TV' - *TiVo* is TiVo for cable TV.
There are different model TiVos. DirecTV sells integrated units which
are DirecTV receivers with integrated TiVo - and those only work with
DirecTV. But there are also standalone units branded by TiVo,
Pioneer, and Toshiba (and older units from Sony and Phillips that are
no longer made) which record from any analog input - cable, antenna,
satellite (using an external tuner), etc.
If you have DTV with DirecTiVo you're probably better off getting a
standalone TiVo for cable since it'll have the same basic interface
and features (actually the standalone units have some features DTV
hasn't added yet) that you're familiar with.
See
http/www.tivo.com/1.1.1.10.asp for a comparison of the different
models. Also, Toshiba has a couple of TiVo/DVD-RW boxes coming out in
August that will be less expensive than the Pioneer TiVo/DVD-RW and
have a few more features. Also, see alt.video.ptv.tivo
ReplayTV is very much like a standalone TiVo. They have the same
recording capabilities and overall a similar feature set. TiVo has
some things RTV lacks and vice-versa.
Currently the only ReplayTV units are branded RepalyTV - there were
older units sold by Panasonic as well.
