What is the best free antivirus software for my windows 7 computer?

Softwares I have tried:
MSE- took too long scanning and stopped midway of removing a hacktool 32 gen
Avira- Took too long to scan
Malwarebytes- Still using it to remove malware and it does a good job at it

Take note that i only have 300 out of 1 TB of memory left in my HDD and I am not sure if the 700 gig that I used may contribute to the slow scanning times.

Bitdefender and Avira are the best. Read the benchmarks Iinked above and make up your own mind. AVComparatives has been doing independent comparisons for years. Avira has been at the top of those comparisons for years. I don't know what else you want. Anyone posting anything else without posting evidence to back their claims are just posting opinion.

Yeah i noticed that some of the people's saying are not backed up that well and are opinion but not that I am going to hate them for it...I do see that Avira is a good AV and I think I will look into Avast and use it for a backup just in case I get tired of Avira hopefully I won't

The only reason I would not recommend using Avast is because of their large number of false alarms (not to be confused with false positives for viruses). The last report I saw, that was comprehensive, showed that Avast blocked/flagged a large number of blatant genuine Windows operations (which did no harm to the user), as well as a fair amount of other Windows processes that other AVs didn't block (all of which where normal Windows/program operations that were harmless to the computer).

Basically, Avast is a bit too paranoid for my recommendations. Avira isn't as bad, but I've never felt comfortable suggesting it. OF the three that anort recommend, though, I'd say Avira of BitDefender would be your "best" picks.
