Solved! What parts can you use from an old PC.

Hey Guys,
So I have 2 Gateway desktops, identical P6803W and one took a dive (the HD quit). One question, can I take the DIMM card from the dead one and add to the memory of the working PC? Any other parts worth saving/re-using? Otherwise, is it worth dropping say $40 on Ebay to replace the bad HD to give me back the failed desktop? I could at least use it as a redundant memory to store family photos etc. Yes, I already have a 1 TB external, but that's getting up there in the years too

If you already have a 1TB storage drive just grab a small 120GB SSD and put windows on that, you can pick those up for $25 and the boot time will be much faster. As is the system is good enough for very basic use and photo storage.

As far as life of drives I still have my WD 1TB Black from 10 years ago, this is the 3rd system it has migrated to and still functions just fine albeit much slower than everything else.

The RAM is interchangeable and both units came out with 4GB "2X2GB", you have 4 slots so you could add the other 4GB to the working PC and have 8GB total. You can run up to 16 GB of DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1066.
