Hello miriammann

Can you please provide more details about the model of your Dell laptop and which operating system you are using?

Normally, if an operating system is unable to find the network adapter, it is because either the installed NIC driver is corrupted or has not been installed at all.

To manage the device drivers:

> Open the Run command box by pressing Windows + R on the keyboard.

> Type DEVMGMT.MSC and press Enter.

> From the opened Device Manager snap-in, expand the Network adapters tree and check if the wireless adapter is listed.

> If listed, right-click the adapter.

> Click Update Driver Software from the context menu.

> Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.

> If the driver is not installed, go to the Dell's official website and download and install the appropriate NIC driver for your laptop.

> Check if the issue has been resolved after installing the NIC driver.

To answer your basic question, the DNS of your laptop should be configured to obtain the address automatically as the Wi-Fi router itself works as a DHCP server that automatically provides the DNS server address (which in most cases is the IP address of the router itself).

Let me know if any further assistance is needed. Please provide more details about the laptop model, the Wi-Fi router and what is the exact configuration of both the devices in order to allow us to give you the accurate assistance and precise information.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

The DNS address should be set to be automatically obtained, which is the default setting. Your issue does not sound like a DNS setting error, however.

Check Device Manager; do you have any errors in the device list? Is anything missing under Network Adapters?

Reinstall the driver for your WiFi card and, if need be, run a virus scan in Safe Mode (hold F8 before Windows starts to access the option for Safe Mode).
