Would these RAM sticks work? I have a friend that would do it for free of cost. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232148&cm_re=sdram_ddr4-_-20-232-148-_-Product

And any m.2 ssd and 2.5 inch ssd would work? Would m.2 be that much better?

That ram would probably work but ... your system supports 2400 so you should definitely use it (quicker). Something like this:

An m.2 would be better for you because if you used it .... you would have a slot for a normal (presumably, high capacity) hard drive.

The memory you linked will work. It's just if you want to use your computer for any type of gaming, you'd be better with a faster memory.
The integrated GPU and the CPU share the system memory and when gaming, a lot of memory bandwidth is required. That's why dual rank higher frequecy with lower latency memory modules would be the best. I'm not sure what kind of control over memory settings this laptop has, but usually it's not much.

There are 3 types of M.2 drives.
1. SATA (protocol, don't confuse with connector) - like the one rovert linked
2. NVMe - those faster
3. Optane - not really affordable.

for normal personal usage, you wouldn't notice the difference. they all very fast. The first is the best in terms of price for capacity. they perform similarly to the 2.5" and cost about the same.
Which one to get, totally depends on what you currently have in that laptop.

If there is only a HDD, contact HP support and make sure that you can use M.2 SATA SSD and HDD simultaneously.
If there is only a M.2 SSD, get a 2.5" SSD.
