What's This -- A Millenium 2-4-6 DTS DECODER?

What's this contraption used for?:

I don't have a single DTS LD, but I thought that the PCM Toslink
output of my player will pass a DTS signal just fine. Or, is this
thing for those players that only have analog audio output?

TIA for any clarification on this piece of equipment.

This external decoder would be used with older surround sound receivers
that do not have DTS decoding built in, but do have 6-channel analog
inputs. You plug the Toslink from the LD or DVD player into the decoder,
which is connected by the 6 RCA cables to the receiver. Any modern
receiver that has both Dolby Digital and DTS built in would have no use
for this type of peripheral.

In the days before A-V receivers with built-in DTS we used on of these to
demonstrate laserdiscs with DTS surround. It cost around $1,000 when new. You
could buy a whole system for that today.
