Solved! when i plug an ear/headphone into the audio jack into my laptop, it works for like 3-10 minutes and then all of a sudden it stops working.

i checked, it is plugged all the way in and if i unplug and plug it in the jack, it works for another 3-5 minutes. everytime this happens I go to the updates windows setting and scan for updates, the is one. i have updated 3 times in the last 2 weeks. it is a new laptop. somehow this audio and microphone stops working problem only happens while using zoom (the web conferencing app.
