When I try to watch a movie from a USB drive that is not in 16:9 format, the image looks stretched. The TV stretches the image to fit its 16:9 aspect ratio, creating distorted images. E.g. the image is vertically stretched when playing a 21:9 movie, and horizontally stretched when watching a 4:3 movie. This happens to all video formats (avi, mp4, mkv). 16:9 videos play fine.

The format button on the remote controller to control the ratio does not work for USB videos.

Is there a solution to this problem? Maybe to fix either the format button, or let the tv read the video stream of the files and adjust (letterbox or fill) the screen?

I would try to contact the maker of the TV to check on if a firmware update is available to correct this.
If not you could try using something like this

or another media player that has it's own aspect and zoom control.
