Which ASUS should I get for being a lawyer?

I like ASUS. I need a laptop for home and travel use that is quick and has a good amount of RAM. I don't think a killer video card is as important for my purposes. The most hardware-intensive thing I'm going to do is look at really large PDF files in a clunky old piece of software; I've found that a quicker computer does a better job of this -- but, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think it'll be a huge video card question.

I also get $1000 from work to help buy it. So i want something from like $1000 to $1400. I'm looking at this:

Seems nice and light. For your needs the nVidia GT 840m means nothing. You can get a laptop with the same or nearly the same hardware specs for a lower price, but it is be heavier. The $1,300 price tag takes into consideration that it is a "powerful" and "light" laptop. It also has a SSD which generally increases the cost as well.

Not sure what the "Quad" means in the laptop's name since the laptop has a dual core CPU.You will not find a quad core CPU in a thin and light laptop since they produce a lot of heat and consume a decent amount of power.

You probably don't need the i7 model for what you listed as your needs/demands. While the i5 model would be more cost efficient and yet still practical for you, it also means cutting your storage space in half with that Zenbook. My suggestion is to base this more off of the storage space you need if you are more or less set on that unit.

While Asus has a few other options that would suit you, that Zenbook is brand new and a great price for the feature set.

Thanks guys. To Prostar: I currently have an i3 laptop and find it's significantly slower in the tasks I need than my desktop computer at work. Ideally, I want the laptop to be just as good. I realize that's a high expectation for many computer tasks, but I'm hoping it isn't for what I'm doing. Think a REALLY big webpage -- like miles and miles of text. What would load that faster -- it's CPU and RAM right?

Storage space isn't a big deal to me. I don't really watch movies or anything... I'm at work too much (more honestly that should be a sadface... sigh)

The i3 is the baby in the Core series from Intel. What will really make a difference in loading a webpage is your network speed, the capability of the WLAN installed in the laptop, your storage drive (remember web pages are cached), and your CPU. RAM not as much because your web browser will already be loaded and running in RAM.

The quad refers to the display resolution. They're calling 3200 x 1800 Quad-HD (Actually this is WQXGA+, but who knows that without looking it up?). Regular quad HD is 4x more pixels than 720p, and this WQXGA+ Quad HD has 4x more pixels than 1600x900, which is HD+. So really they could be calling it "Quad-HD+"
