Which laptop should I get?

I use my laptop for the following:
Office Programs (word, excel, publisher)
Smartboard presentations
Transported back and forth to work daily
web surfing

I have had suggestions that I get a business class notebook, but I don't want to buy something without seeing it first. ( I know I can return it, but that ties up my money and laptop while I am doing that). I saw these two in the store and they seemed to both have all the major features I was looking for.

1) which is a better laptop for the money and
2) have you heard any glaring problems with either?

Go for the HP. The simple reason being, it has a newer gen processor and iGPU. The new processors are known to be much more power efficient, thus should result in better battery life. Go for it.

OK. I was wondering about the processor. I've been seeing mixed reviews about the M vs the i5; some saying it is slower, some saying ther are the same. Have you used either and if so, what has been your experience?

I have first hand experience with both and can say that the reviews you read are true.
The core m is slightly inferior to equal in most cases to the i5.
That said, your tasks are simple ones and you would hardly ever reach the full potential of either, so the performance difference would not be noticeable to you.
One difference that will be noticeable however, is battery life. The core m's are miles ahead of the i5 in this regard (it sips less than a third of the i5). The Lenovo is not too good in this regard as seen in the review here

Though the HP model is slightly different, your choice has a better processor and twice the RAM, so should perform much better.
