Which would be the better laptop:- an Asus X75vc - TYio3H or an HP Pavilion G6 2380SA? Both have the i5 3230 CPU, 8GB of RAM a

If portability isn't an issue then not really. The only major downside to a larger notebook deals with the size and weight of the notebook itself which would mostly effect portability.

The Asus seems to be the faster system having a Dedicated GPU (although a slow one 720M). But then again it is also a bigger notebook 17" vs 15.6" so size would also be something to think about. Otherwise the specs are pretty much the same.

Anything is better than an HP.... They load so much crap on their computers you have to spend a few hours uninstalling stuff as soon as you buy it. They've never seemed to keep that smooth new-computer feel very long either. I have never had a bad experience with an ASUS though. Several bad experiences with HP. Not always about the hardware. Usually it is, but not always.

Many thanks for your comments. Apart from the obvious advantage of having a larger screen to look at, is there a downside to choosing the 17" over the 15.6"? Portability doesn't bother me.
