Why does my HP laptop that is 20 months old keep randomly overheating and cutting out/.

Basically, for 2 weeks now when it's charging its overheating and when it's not charging it don't overheat but it randomly cuts out between 25 and 40% randomly without warning.
Is there a solution to this

Very unlikely to be software issue. Might be dying battery, could be fried/dead fuses and/or other stuff around battery. Or some other stuff. Anyways you could try replacing battery if it's cheap otherwise take it to repair.
Maybe someone more experienced could answer you with more certainty.
