As the title says, why does my laptop taking up so much ram and cpu??

The laptop is like 1 week old and its already slow as hell sometimes.
When i look at the task manager my "Disk 0" is sometimes at 100% thanks to mcafee on access scanner service...
But i've noticed another thing, in the task manager there is something called "hosting service: local system (17)" which sometimes takes up to 550MB memory and after like 10 min its down to 90MB..
Can anyone help me??

Here is a picture i took in the process explorer

Solution
Since it's only 1 week old, I would try the following ASAP:

1- Try to Recovery CDs (or hidden recovery partition). It will bring it back to factory default and see if the problems are still there.

2- If this doesn't solve your problem, you could bring the laptop back to the store to get a reimbursement or exchange it for a different model. You might have got a lemon. I think the policy in most country is that within 15 days of purchase they can reimburse or exchange it to you without any questions asked.

Just a little story: A friend of mine bought a HP laptop for his daughter. I visited him and he said they had the laptop for only a week with lots of problems on it. He said they didn't install any extra software so he didn't...

Update: Now its working... :/
What i did was first to unstall Mcafee as soon as i booted the laptop after i factory restored my PC and installed AVAST. But didnt either work so i also unistalled AVAST and now its working perfectly... So now i dont have any Virus protection at all :/
What antivirus software do you recommend, which does not kill my latop like AVAST and Mcafee did??

I would go with Avira. It's usually very lightweight.

The only drawback with the free version is that you get a pop-up asking to buy the full version everytime it does an update. But it's not too bad because it updates itself only once or twice a day, so you don' get that too often. And I try to see the good side of it, when you get that pop-up it simply indicates your anti-virus is working and updating itself.

But aside from having to find an anti-virus solution, do you still have over 100 processes running? That's the biggest problem. If so, I would bring back the laptop to the store and get reimbursed.

When you say the disk is at 0%, you probably mean the CPU?

Did you install Avira now? Don't spend too much time without a security software.

What could happen is that when you install a new anti-virus it might want to do a full system scan at first, or might do it in the background without asking you and of course this could slow the system down.

No! Windows Defender is not an anti-virus, this is simply an anti-spyware (and a bad one).

Definitely install Avira.

As I said previously it can be normal that disk usage is at 100% if your anti-virus is making a scan. This could be normal after you install it the first time it might want to do a full system scan (scans the full content of the hard drive) so yes it will slow down the computer during that time. Full system scan can last a few hours sometimes. After that, the anti-virus shouldn't do that anymore, it will do random quick scan sometimes, but those last a few minutes instead.
