I bought my wife an HP R607 (4 megapixel, Pentax lens etc) for Christmas.
After 4 months we have finally given up with it. The flash is underpowered
and anything over 6 feet appears in darkness. The pictures it takes are
grainy and low light photos are grey and disappointing. I am going to
replace it and to Staples credit they have agreed to exchange the camera for
another. Here is the question, with what? I am an Olympus fan and borrowed
a friends Stylus 300 (3 megapixel) This camera was very impressive, small,
light, even weatherproof, the low light performance was acceptable and the
flash range better than the HP. What about the Stylus 410 any experience
with this camera? And finally Staples is full of Canons, bearing in mind we
are looking for a shirt pocket size camera with a reasonable flash range
would any of these "point and shoot" style cameras do the trick? Would
prefer 3 X zoom and 4 megapixel. Thanks for your input.... Robin

You might also want to consider the new Panasonic FX7 and Pentax Optio
S5i. Both are small, light and good performers.

I read through a number of user reviews of that camera, and none of them
mentioned a reduced flash range. It seems that your camera may be
defective, or you may be using the zoom on flash pictures, which greatly
reduces the amount of light reaching the sensor on camera with small
lens openings. Many people forget that zooming actually REDUCES the
flash range on P&S cameras.
