[citation][nom]nukem950[/nom]I figure it is licensing fees. I think they should have an app that has the fees in it. So if someone wants it, then they pay for it. Those who do not care do not have to pay for it.[/citation]
yea... but regardless nintendo would have to foot the bill for the fee, with or without players paying for it.
[citation][nom]jamesedgeuk2000[/nom]I think this is the right idea, nobody whined that the SNES/N64 couldn't play VHS, now just fix the stupid controller[/citation]
your point is stupid.
if snes or n64 ran off vhs tapes, as in thats what games were loaded from, you can bet your ass i would want vhs playback. but i can understand the licencing things. [citation][nom]belardo[/nom]The Japanese versions of the Wii and WII-U play back DVD / BR.Stupid, so stupid.... they are targeting this to kids, so for some of us with kids... it means one less device to make clutter under the TV.[/citation]
SPECIAL EDITIONS if i remember correctly. and they cost quite a bit more too, the game cube that could play dvds cost i think 1-200 more than the standard one.
[citation][nom]N19h7M4r3[/nom]Its easy to figure out why they did it. If its proprietary I can bet you no one will have a burner at home that can make disk's for it.[/citation]
no, its about licencing rights. they would owe sony 1$ per disc about sold, and money on the console.
piracy is a far lesser concern to them than this.
[citation][nom]juliom[/nom]So many kids commenting these days... You do realize that the R700 has a tesselator? Hell, even the Xbox 360 has a telesselator! And you realize that just because it's R700 BASED doesn't mean that it will be outdated? And you do realize that the chip will be tweaked and enhanced? (example: it's going to be manufactured at 32nm instead of the original 55nm) And you do realize that an "old" and "outdated" 4870 GPU is around 4 times more powerfull than the 7800 based GPU on the PS3? And you do realize that the current AMD flagship card is based on the R700 architecture?[/citation]
THANK YOU, you make my points for me, its based on an older architecture, but just because its on the console, you will see game play on it that you never would have thought possible while it was still pc only hardware. i @#$@ing LOVE the stagnation of hardware because it forces devs to optimize code instead of brute force crap
[citation][nom]nebun[/nom]the excuse is so lame...how hard is it to implement Blu-ray/DVD-playback???? this really boggles my mind!!!!!!![/citation]
not hard, but they have to give money to sony for every disc if they did.[citation][nom]vistaofdoom[/nom]People that think in DX iterations while talking about consoles should be shot.[/citation]
its like we share the same mind.
[citation][nom]AndrewMD[/nom]I won't be bothering with Nintendo's latest console, not because of movie playback issues hut because a lack of direction. Those controllers are going to be expensive ANC costly to replace if this system is aimed at young kids. As for propriety hardware for playback, Sega did that with the Dreamcast and now Sega is nothing more than a half-rate publisher. I'll wait for the xbox 720[/citation]
sega also had 7 consoles minimum going world wide, and had some massive failures consecutively to boot.
