I spilled wine on laptop and keyboard would no longer work a few months back. I flipped laotop over to let dry...used alcohol to clean between keys w q tips, but accidentally a few keys using a hair dryer...Yes...I know ...heat was too close to keys...I have been using a portable keyboard plugged into USB port for now in the meantime.
Will a replacement keyboard w/ ribbon ordered from a supplier fix the problem or could the problem be deeper in the circuit board? How can I tell? I can't afford to purchase another one for awhile.

Solution
No way to tell where the issue is until you test it. If the only thing not working is the keyboard, it is likely that a new keyboard will fix things.

It is not possible to give you a definite yes or no. It is possible the keyboard is not working due to the liquid damage or to the heat you applied to the keyboard.
The good news is replacement keyboards are cheap and easy to replace.
