Will this be a good camera to buy

Hello,
I am 64 years young and have had to stop work through ill health.I would like to buy my first and possibly my only DSLR a Canon 550d.Ican't see myself being able to afford another camera so I want to try and get one that I hope will last me a while.

that is a great camera... u might not even need the 550d, check out and compare the 500d to it. You can save a few bucks and get some new lenses instead
