windows 8 install key is not working

Hi,

I had to replace my hard drive and I am installing trying to install Windows 8 from a CD I had. I was about to pull the Product key from BIOS using produckey, but when I boot to dvd and enter key it says, "we couldn;t verify the product key. check your installation media"

Any ideas what is wrong and what I need to do to get this installed? This is a Toshiba Satellite S855-S5381 running Windows 8

I've tried that before too and it didn't work and that was win7. The product key should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop though. Try using that one.

Is your windows 8 DVD a toshiba supplied one?

If not is it a retail one or microsoft system builder one?

The Toshiba / microsoft label key is different from the one found by produkey in the registry if the windows 8 is a Toshiba installed version as opposed to a upgrade from win 7 to win 8

As you have found out the hard way you need to make a recovery DVD set or usb memory stick when prompted by OEM windows shortly after it finishes starting up for the first time.

Some times the windows label is in the battery compartment instead of under neath the lap top
