I need to create backup image of my old PC (Partition C is 10GBs). When my cousins mess up that OS, I want to plug DVDs and restore that partition/OS to earlier state. Problem is that motherboard is so old that it doesn't support booting via USB, so I can only backup via DVDs (3 of them, because partition C is 10GBs).

Is this possible?

Using optical media for imaging a hard drive is unnecessarily fiddly these days when there are better options.

Buy an external hard drive to save the backup image to. When you need to write the image back to the hard drive, boot from the CD that the imaging software allows you to create.

You can even boot from that CD to create the image as well if you don't like creating it from within Windows.

This is the imaging software I use for the purpose: http://lsoft.net/diskimage.aspx

Yes, it's possible. You'll probably want to ghost the drive. You can use Norton Ghost (commercial) or Clonezilla (free). However, Clonezilla doesn't support multiple CDs/DVDs.

I wouldn't trust a pen drive for drive backups (or indeed any kind of backup) - - they are okay for quick transfer jobs but not reliable enough for backups. That's why I suggested external hard drives - two of them in case one goes belly up.
