I have a toshiba C55T satelite laptop.. Got it from someone the hard drive had windows 8.1 on it when it was new it got wiped. I put an old Hard drive in it that i had windows 7 on. It says this version of windows is not geniune and wont let we set up any internet connection, Is this because the original version is registered to the Motherboard?

Better to just buy your own OS.

1. That will have none of the original Toshiba bloatware.
2. You get to choose what you want. Win 7/8.1/10...

True.

Either way will work.
Buy your own Win 10, and you can use on different hardware in the future.
