Hi,

I have an IPAQ H3800 Pocket PC and I accidentally deleted
some of the built Windows MEdia Player files in my pocket
pc.

I tried to reinstall WMPlayer 8 (using IPAQ Installer CD)
and it went perfectly well. However if I clicked on the
Windows Media Player button, nothing happens.

Help please.

Thank you very much.

Joanne

Probably, taking a full backup of the PPC, then doing a hard reset is
what you want : That will install all the orginal programs from ROM
(which cannot be overwritten) and restore your IPAQ to the factory
supplied state.

I have this same problem except I have a Ipaq 3670. I reinstalled the 2002 Rom and did a hard reset. Everything looks good except now I don't have WMP on the system. I then tried installing WMP 8.0 Upgrade, but it wont function saying "WMP is missing components." I knwo I need the original full install of WMP 8.0 but I dont even have it on the Ipaq Rom Upgrade disc. What should I do?
Thanks,
Sean

I don't understand how that's possible - the ROM is a protected area.

When you reinstalled it, you mean you downloaded a complete ROM image
to the device, with dire warnings about not touching the device and so
on ?

Or did you just copy a backup of your programs and files back to the
device ? The two actions are distinctly different, installing a ROM
image is normally only used to update the OS and installed programs
which come with it.

A hard reset will restore your machine to its original configuration
and installed software *from the ROM* so there will be all the
software which is supplied in ROM in its default state. Unless your
machines ROM is damaged in some way it can't just stop working or have
missing software.

I'd contact HP/Compaq about this, they may have other suggestions.

I reset the unit and reinstalled the new ROM. However in order to get the media player to work I found the 7.1 WMP cab on the Microsoft website (could not do a direct install because 7.1 does not work with my current ROM 2.14). Not it works.

Well, I'm glad it works now !

Still unable to find the WM version 8 for PPC though, looks like MS
pulled it from their website. Anybody got a current URL for this ?
