wont turn on

my acer 4920 laptop is giving problem since few days,when i try to turn on it using a fully charged battery it turns on but shuts off after the starting window screen,when i try to turn it on with ac without battery installed it can turn on as asual and operates normally,when ac and battery both are installed also there seems no problem,ut can turn on normally and works normally,what may be the cause?

If it works without the battery, either the battery is bad or the connections to it from the laptop are bad.
