[citation][nom]Dirtman73[/nom]That's the price we pay for a free society. Although you assume that this will make it easier for perverts and terrorists to do their jobs; they don't seem to have any problems with the way things are right now, do they?[/citation]

Well said. As a couple of important people said a long time ago, "He who trades liberty for security deserves neither and will lose both."

So the movie "Copyright Infringers of the Caribbean" was a hit.

[citation][nom]maxh2[/nom]NO, piracy is NOT theft, it's piracy. Theft has a very different impact on the victim. It'd be more accurate to refer to piracy as copyright infringement. If it were theft, they would've just called it theft instead of making a new term for it. Why don't you work on comprehending that.[/citation]

[citation][nom]js1882[/nom]EXACTLY! This whole idea of piracy=theft is just propaganda RIAA/MPAA are trying to brainwash people with (and it is working). piracy is copyright infringement and is considered a civil matter.[/citation]

Piracy is defined as robbery. And a synonym for robbery is theft. Look it up in the dictionary. Anyone that says piracy is not theft are idiots!!!
Piracy @Merriam-Webster

Tough topic. I will say I do support TPB. This shouldnt have to remain open long just enough to frighten other ISPs to support their customers instead of their wallets.

To all of you who think ISPs should not keep logs how do you propose to "police" the internet? Im not saying keeping logs is a good thing, because some one will always use it in a unintended way, but I am wondering how will you keep botnets and hacker/crackers at bay?

Im looking for ideas not the same privicy battle thats going on.

It's one thing for the record industry but I hope they will be dealing with does doing criminal stuff like child porn, spammer etc.. They will need to deal with cops one way or another.

Has anyone considered the negative side to this?

Even with anonymous feeds, encryption etc, there is usually a way to trace back to the source of information. This appears to block that information.

Does this not open the door to to hideous, illeagal or dangerous activity? For example child pronography, terrorism or distribution of false infomation.

If a server containing the above is directly connected to this ISP, then the server owner would have no worries about being caught.

I am all for privacy, but it appears this provides more than just privacy but also a safe haven to conduct illeagal activity.

The ignorance of your comment helps shed some light on how you were able to come to your incorrect conclusion, and even post a link you think supports your argument, when you obviously didn't read the material from the link you posted.

There are 3 definitions listed in your link. #1 one and #2 mention robbery, but also include "on the high seas." See, piracy originally referred to men on boats hijacking other boats and taking their stuff. Obviously we aren't talking about boats and the ocean when talking about the internet and software/media, so definition #3 must be the one that applies, and that specifically states "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT", not theft or robbery! Anyone that can't read and comprehend such simple writing is an idiot.

If a criminal with a gun came up to you and said "I'm giving you 2 choices; either I rob your house and take your stuff, or I copy that painting I saw you do while looking through your window so I can hang it in my house and enjoy it." Which would you choose?

Let this new ISP spread to all the corners of the globe. I will gladly use they're actual "service" when it get's here.

Most ISP's call it "service" when it's truly more of a "give us your money" kind of a deal. I want my privacy. =)

[citation][nom]johnh2005[/nom]I bet they would not feel the same way if some one was breaking into their house and stealing from them, hacking into their computers taking their credit card numbers or taking something that belonged to them and using it for themselves. But of course I will get voted down [/citation]

I stopped reading there, if you really can't understand the difference between robbery of a residence and copyright infringment you have been brainwashed, watching to many of the RIAA/MPAA advertisments. It's this same rediculous comparison that makes most people just tune out to the whole message. If you want to convince someone, you can't start by blowing your credibility in the first sentence.

I do agree piracy isn't a good thing but it's the natural result of blunt instruments like the DMCA. There was and will be backlash as long as you ignore fair use rights, it's a two way street.

If I were a painter, I would like to get paid for my labor and creativity. Having the guy copy my work at gun point is a crime, equal to or worse than theft, in my book.

Did you ever get caught cheating is school, COPYING someone elses work? Schools frown upon this behavior and some will even kick you out for it.

Definitions 1 & 2 have been around a whole hell of a lot longer than definition 3. So to me, piracy, in any form, by definition is robbery; all that has changed is the medium of the robbery from the "high seas" to the internet.

Why is it that an item sold in stores, should be free on the internet? Where does this disconnect happen? If it is not free in a store than why should it be free on the internet?

[citation][nom]audioee[/nom]... Why is it that an item sold in stores, should be free on the internet? Where does this disconnect happen? If it is not free in a store than why should it be free on the internet?[/citation]

The disconnect is that the store purchases physical CDs to put on their shelves and if you steal one, the store loses the actual money they spent on that physical, tangible item. While pirating a song may result in a nebulous possibility of a sale in the future lost, there's a big difference between nebulous future possibility of money and actual, physical, right here and right now money. There's your disconnect. It's two different things. The legal system sees this and recognizes this, hence the difference between theft and copyright infringement; criminal versus civil issue.

People pushing the whole piracy as theft concept are simply puppets for the RIAA and MPAA spouting off nonsense because it gives them some warm fuzzy feeling to be protecting those huge, greedy, corrupt organizations. How does it feel being such a tool?

1) Copying/Piracy still notes who created the work, the original work is retained, and no value is lost. The AGREEMENT of exchanging one good for another is what gets broken.

2) Big brother is what screwed this all up. Everything is about money and you can't barter anymore. Think your whatever you created is worth x value? So does the next guy, but not in terms of money because the value of money is different to everyone. In brazil they'd still exchange you a haircut for a live chicken. It's not money, but it's a free dinner or an extra egg a day.

3) In relation to #2, I'd offer whatever services I could in exchange for the things I've gotten instead of money, but that's clearly not an option. Build a large shed for a 2000 camry? You betcha. Walk the dog and mow a lawn for some CDs? Remove the money part and suddenly everyone can trade instead of the top 2%

4) Maxh2: He prob feels that way because he's worked hard for what he earned and empathizes - You and I don't feel that way prob because we haven't worked as hard as others for what we've got. /Maxh2 However some people can cope with a stressful bossy and unfair 60 hour a week job while others (like me) can't because i'd just hurt somebody eventually for the mental bullshit.

Live free or die.

To all the folks involved in this insane "Lets Sue The ISP Debate". Think about it this way for a moment. An ISP is the Electronic equivalent of a Road, a Street or a Freeway; where all drivers, pedestrians etc are allowed to commute unfettered. Now just because a few drivers drink drive or drug drive or hit and run and run away, does not mean that everyone in the world has the right to block the said road and sue the government of the day for making and operating the road. If that happened in the analogue world that we live in there would be utter chaos and nobody would be able to get anywhere at all. Life would come to a standstill. World thrives on sincerity and a few bad apples a la pirates or illegal file sharers do not make a difference, so stop worrying about it.

[citation][nom]Weegee64[/nom]The difference between the "Pedophile ISP" and "Pirate ISP" is that the pirates hurt millionaires and rich executives, while pedophiles hurt innocent little kids. Kind of a big difference, huh?[/citation]

Actually, no, but you're not smart enough to realize it. Who owns big companies? In many cases, Mom and Pop who have mutual funds trying to save money for college or other things.

When you steal from public companies, you steal from all their shareholders, the vast majority of which are not millionaires.

Let's be real. Most of you advocating piracy are losers. Losers often feel the world has been unfair to them, and therefore have a sense of entitlement. So, it's really OK for them to steal, so they rationalize it.

Some idiot mentioned a Lamborghini and walking away with the copy, while leaving the original. If everyone did it, no one would buy the car, duh. Lamborghini would go out of business if there weren't demand to BUY it, and all their shareholders, and people working for them, and their suppliers, would all go out of business.

Capitalism doesn't work best when people steal instead of buy. It hurts not only companies that sell, but people who actually buy have to pay more for it. It's all bad.

But, losers have a sense of entitlement ...

Goody goody any thing that those on top hate the most and that is people getting smut for free instead of paying for it. In the very old days it was rare books and liquor.

You are the idiot for not being able to thing for yourself and just believe what the MPAA is telling you. The word piracy used instead of copyright infringement because it has a more powerful/negative tone to it. The definition of piracy that you are referring to relates to robbery on the sea.

Gustav Nipe: " He also said that Pirate ISP will not respond to outside interference, especially threats made from the United States."

not that i want to do this, but he is sadly mistaken if i should apply for a job with the U.S. embasy in sweeden and show him a very costly #1 a-hole move. any one with diplomatic imunity can carry a tazzer/high powered portable magnetafter having your own gov't. do a little snooping in locating which building the ISP is located, and pay a visit to such machines, get an invitiation to visit that particular swedish parliment in action at the building, snoop around until you find the server farm/mainframe and apply said tazzer/high powered magnet to said machines. after a few very expensive incidents i think the message would get across, and all with diplomatic imunity, which i'm sure sweedens gov't. isn't going to be too hard pressed to revoke or kick such person out of the country. how ever i would expect the U.S. congress to just start threatening to axing trade agreements, finacial agreements/ties among chopping a great many cables traversing the ocean floor to/from sweeden.

i'm by no means a genuis, but if i can think of this....Gustav Nipe might want to reconsider how deep a grave they are digging for themselves from even his own gov't.

just a thought, but i am for helping the pirates since the music and movie industry promised cheaper prices due to faster and lower production costs and yet the price went up almost if not double immediately back in the late 80's (cd's vs. cassette) & 90's (vhs vs. dvd). they lied, and they should be made to pay for it, also they are not adapting to new technology fast enough (memory cards & new formats), and actually hindering it, like the 8 layers dvd originaly debuted at.

Pirate ISP will not respond to outside interference, especially threats made from the United States.

Well it looks like we know where America is going to invade next.

Next Republican president:
Weapons of mass piracy reside within Sweden. Our Corporate masters demand that we deal with them harshly... oh I wasn't suppose to share that part... umm we must liberate the poor souls in Sweden whom live under such a evil dictatorship! *shifty eyes*
