Hello I am trying to decide between the Y400 and Y500 the screen size does not matter to me. Which laptop is better in terms of performance. Also is a 1080p screen noticeably better than a 720p? Is it worth the extra $100?

Y500-$799.99 USD

Processor
3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor( 2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)

Yes, it's definitely more noticeable buying a laptop with a 1080P screen, and I've used both. I can't go back to my old laptop's 720P screen anymore.

1080p has nearly twice the number of pixel that 720p has so you can expect a significant less performance when playing games at 1080p since the same GPU is used in both laptops. You can always lower the resolution to gain better performance, but graphics will not look as sharp. Games are playable at 720p resolution. At least for me it's not a big deal switching between 720p on my Y470 and 1200p on my desktop.

However, my next laptop will have a 1080p screen since I tend to multi-task quite a bit with several windows/programs opened at the same time and I like to see a lot of information at once. 720p is too low for me to effectively multi-task.

My next laptop will likely not be a gaming laptop.

I can I was just trying to spend as little as possible. Does the $900 Y500 come with the second GPU? I thought it came standard with the optical drive.

I do not see having a problem with only 720p, Ive been playing xbox 360 on a 720p 19" monitor for years and it has never bothered me. Personally I find the 14" screen on the Y400 is attractive because of the smaller footprint. Also saving the $100 is a huge plus and can be put towards some games!

I went from a 1366 x 720 laptop to a 1900 x 1080P laptop and the difference is quite literally night and day. You really can tell a difference between high resolutions and low resolutions.
