There's a weird thing going on my laptop since I removed Windows 7 from it. Whenever I lower my laptop's screen brightness to zero/minimum level, the screen turns OFF. I had a dual boot system of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, and for some reason I had to remove W7 and install Ubuntu in place of it. So I went to Windows 8.1 and formatted the drive that had Windows 7. Everything went fine and I installed Ubuntu. But after the installation and a reboot, I went to W8.1, and the screen turned off/black. I figured out after sometime that the screen is actually on, it's just the brightness that has gone all the way to zero. I somehow managed to turn on the screen. But now when I lower the brightness with Fn Keys or the brightness slider, it again turns off the screen. Before I thought this was happening only in Windows, so I went to Ubuntu, turned the brightness low again, and the same thing happened again. Since the problem is sort of universal on all operating systems, I think this is not a driver issue.
So can anyone help me with this thing, because I think the display might be broken in some way or the other, physically. Do I need to go to the service center or this can be easily fixed?
