Zoom lens and adapter size

I bought a 52mm thread zoom lens and an adapter also 52mm but it doesnt fit. Any advice? What adapter do i need for this? I own a panasonic lumix fz20 so i have to have an adapter tube and someone told me thw wrong size thread needed i have bought the step down adapter but im not understanding why my lens doesn't fit into the adapter? Please help!

Do you have the lens hood adapter (VYQ3213 (Black) or VYQ3226 (Silver))? I'm sure it's necessary for adding filters. The other thing is that you have to remove the lens ring before attaching the lens hood adapter. Look on page 104 of the user manual as it will be a good place to start with helping answer your question.

It does appear you were misinformed. The following are all 72mm threaded and are accessories for the DMC-FZ20:
DMW-LWZ10 (Wide Conversion Lens)
DMW-LND72 (ND (neutral density) Filter)
DMW-LNC72 (MC Protector)
