Shucks, its too bad they dont sell IBM ThinkPads anymore.

I dont think there is anything terribly wrong with a MacBook. But nor do i think there is a need to spend so much for so little.

Personally, I'd be embarrassed to show it in public, people would probably just stare.

I simply cant justify the price. Thats all. No other reason.

$3,000 for me, is not a laptop, its a:
- great 70s Jaguar restoration project
- new home theatre
- new piano
- trip around the world
- italian jacket
- rolex
- etc...

Many can't justify the price, I even say that in my concussion, if you read that, maybe you remember I pointed that out.

The Unibody actually is rigid and therefore somewhat tough but not in a toughbook way.

By they way IBM and now Lenovo is by no means a value PC when you get the type of hardware in this PC. I checked, the M700 is priced similarly and um, doesn't have some of the options

MacBook Pro 17" $2799
IBM M700 with T9400 and no LED backlit screen cost $2679

So go ahead and believe the fable that other brands are just that much cheaper for the same thing. You can save money now but most likely not get quite as much PC.

accidents happen whether your kids know or dont know to stay away from a power cord over all i think he paid a slightly high price but if he thinks its worth it thats great! there are some really good features on this laptop.

My MBP 15" once had a sluggish superdrive performance, not dead, after 9 months of slight use. Apple Service center replaced it for me no questions asked, just 1 form to fill. Try do that with Dell, HP, Lenovo, and etc.

It is an added value that idiotic mac users like me can not say no to. I'm proud to be an idiot because I'm tired of being genius with PC problems. I had to admit It's fun to be able to play around with msconfig but I'm kind a done and prefer to pay some extra and let somebody else have the fun because I got more important things to deal with. It's called bills and deadlines. I can not afford to have fun dealing with my typical PC problems such as I have an important data that got stucked in a crashed PC.

All in all, Mac users are idiots, that's why they are willing to pay much much more to save time and get better customer support. Had they been geniuses, they would have self-fix that darn superdrive and will never ever need a customer support at all but time is not a luxury that I can not afford to allocate fixing a PC.

When my MBP 15" reaches its retirement age, I'll go back to Apple Store any day.

ThinkPads dont have all the features you need, but as far as tough goes, you're really making fun of yourself by calling a MacBook tough when the ThinkPad made its name in the industry for basically just that.

If I could afford a MacBook, I'd buy one.

OK so it has a dedicated graphics that are slower than the onboard in the Apple. It has a slower CPU and a it cost more? Well if that one work for you then great but you can't say it cost less or is a better value. Again buy what works for you.

Well where I work the Thinkpads we have had have proven to be junk, we actually do not buy any more of them. We have had the T21, T30, T43, R51, T60 and a couple of others I do not remember and the quality was terrible as was the support. But maybe they are turning that around as the latest survey showed them improving vastly.

Your right, should not have called it tough, maybe solid would be a better term

Sorry to hear your thinkpads didnt work out.
I got an A31 model back in 2001 and recently replaced it with a T500. I got it first because the A31 STILL works after all these years and all the abuse ive subjected it to (I think my brother's wife uses it now).

Granted mine doesnt have a 17" screen - but the battery gauge reports 6+ hours when Im just doing simple WP tasks. it also has the nifty Lenovo keyboard light which works suprisingly well in a dark room or dark airplane. best of all the system configured to MY tastes was $1900 delivered to my doorstep. (2.4ghz dual core, 4GB ram, switchable discrete/integrated video card, 120GB HD)
So far, their support has been great. zero hardware-related issues. everything has been Vista related.

The backlit keyboard on your macbook sounds like a great feature, especially if your configuring routers in a dimly lit room. Last thing I want so for you to fat finger something cause you cant see well enough -- while fixing a rounter for my ISP.

Thanks, I would not want to take someone out of service during a repair job. I have used the light on the IBM's and it is OK but the backlit keyboard is better for seeing all the keys equally. I wish IBM would go to the a backlit keyboard.

We had lots of reliability issue with the Thinkpads (we call them trashpads) and especially with mainboard and HDD failures. They seem to be doing a little better on quality and service lately as they did well on the recent surveys. I saw the M500 and it has nice features. Not sure if it had LED backlit screen, that is a nice feature that should extend the life of the PC by keeping it bright without the dimming of CCF based screens. I also think that they do usually have fairly durable cases. The issue there is that they are almost as expensive as the Apples and offer nothing compelling. I think that some of the Dells and HP are getting to very compelling prices.

I'm waiting for OS X "Alley Cat" before getting a mac 😱P Another Apple love-fest. It was pretty good actually up until he said he would pay extra for a matte screen. They used to all have matte screens and now they want you to pay extra to have them leave off the glossy? Not so cool.

My 2nd thought... Man... What a nice gaming rid I could make for that much money.

My third thought... For the person who bought this sake... I hope Apple has learned from it's mistakes and not made another laptop that nukes itself the majority of the time.

Many companies are not even selling matted screens on their laptops. Their justification is that most sold are glossy so why bother. THat is the only reason to spend more but maybe you can go and look around to find that is true
