10mp DSLR vs 16mp Bridge?

But i am looking to get this DSLR, which i found for £100 locally: http/www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/eos_400d/

Which one is better?

Given that the Canon is 7 years old, that adds a little weirdness to the equation.

But if you are ready to delve into the intricacies of a DSLR, I'd say go for it.
The 10 megabyte vs 16 megabyte is irrelevant.

Is the Canon new or used?

I'm not going to purchase it, but am now looking at the D3000 (used), or the D60. I'm on a extreme budget.

D3000 will get you somewhere. Though I do recommend you get at least a canon 40D.
