2 dvi out into 1 dvi in

I am wondering if it is possible to have two devices (DVD-player and computer) connected to one monitor.

Here's a DVI splitter I tried, but it did not produce an image:

Individually each device produces the expected image on the monitor, but routed through the splitter, nothing happens. The point of going through a something like a splitter would be a matter of convenience... I would not have to fiddle with switching cables in the back of my setup every time I want to switch a device.

You're using a splitter when you should be using a switch like this one
