Is it possible to have 2 active lines with separate phone numbers on a
single phone?

Like a "public" number and a "private" number for special people?

Should be, if the phone supports dual NAMs.

I have been using a service called Call Wave. Fairly cheap, and i dont
have to give out my personal number. Basically a forwarding /
messaging service. www.callwave.com

Another alternative - if you have a second phone, call forward it to the one
you want to carry. I do this with a work/personal cell phone and change the
forwarding on weekends and during the work week. You can setup groups in
your phonebook with distinctive rings. Call forwarding is either an option
built into your phone on the menu structure, or a sequence like *72xxxxxxxxx
on a Verizon phone. I do this because my work phone is on AT&T (Cingular)
and personal is on Verizon - 2 seperate numbers on one phone won't work from
different carriers.

Even then both phone numbers can not be on at the same time. All calls
to the one that is off will go straight to voice mail.
