5.1 ok in device set but not working

hello everyone,
i bought an external audio board to use an 5.1 speakers device whit my laptop. beside the difficoulty to install the drivers and configure the audio setting (at the moment the only way to make the impiant pass the whindows test in a decent way is to set it as a 7.1 with rear and side signal to rear speakers) i face now a problem. even if in the test setting i can ear the sound come from all of the 5 speaker during a file reproduction (local or coming from internet site) the sound come only from the front/right speaker. any suggestion?

Hi,
You'd have surround in games, movies or audio DVDs labeled as dts.
Youtube or mp3 or similar are stereo only.

As stated by alexoiu: if the audio source does not specifically have data for the other 3 speakers (center, surround R/L), you will only get stereo (L and R) sound.
