6 ohm and 8 ohm speakers powered by a yamaha 496 amp (2 channels @ 75 watts per channel)

Will running both sets of speakers simultaneously (rated at different ohms 6 & 8) harm the Yamaha amp rated at 8 ohms?

You can probably run the 6 ohm speakers by themselves without issue.

...but if you put each 6 in parallel with an 8, you could have problems because now you are looking at about 3 ohms which may cause a problem with the amp because it's going to have to supply a lot more current than it's designed to.

i would not hook up the 6ohm speakers to that unit, nowhere in the manual does it say it is 6ohm stable, only 8ohm @ 75w per channel.

If you get an impedance matching speaker selector that will maintain a safe impedance for your receiver and also allow you to choose which speakers are working.
