A problem with an mp4 file, please help

So i just got a new phone yesterday and it records mp4 file formats like my previous phone. Now everytime i try to put the videos that i record from my new phone into Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier it doesnt recognize it. In vegas it just doesnt allow it and in Premier the file reads as just an audio track.
The file itself works fine on the phone and on media player classic it just doesnt work on video editing softwares, however old mp4 files that was record works just fine.

Please help.

mp4 is just a container file, and videos inside it may be encoded in different formats.

For example your old phone may have encoded in H.264 AVC while your new phone may be H.265 HEVC which your old software may not understand.

I downloaded a 3rd party camera software called "open camera" and it worked just fine. But now comes another question, does the output file format vary based on software or the camera itself ?

The output file depends on the encoder used, which can be software or hardware-accelerated. Cameras have onboard software too, and often OEM apps can use device specific hardware optimizations that purely software apps using the vanilla Android Camera API can't, so can record at higher FPS or more compressed formats while using less battery.

3rd party apps usually have more features and flexible options though.
