i just bought a new iriver chrome x imp 150 cd player thing. it didnt come with an ac power adapter, and in the manual, it says use only the one supplied with cd player (kind of weird). there is an ac power adapter that you can buy off the iriver website, though i do have a sony one from an old cd player. it is 4.5 volts and 500 mA. on the iriver website it says the chromeX needs 4.5 volts and 300 mA. can i still use this sony ac power adapter? thanks

YES
its fine!!!

i had a sony MD player that came from the USA
i live in New Zealand and we use totally different power supplys and plugs 230-240v @ 50Hz rather than 110v-120v @ 60Hz

i used an adapter that should convert the voltage down, however that adapter ended up destroying the sony one.
so i needed to buy a new adapter that ran on NZ power supplys

i got one that was majorly over rated on the Ampage, all it means is that the adapter can supply a greater current than it needs to (if it ever needs to)

but if you had one that could only supply 200mA then NO you couldn't use it.

the larger the better, just like a PSU for the computer
