Hello, I have an Asus ROG GL552 VW laptop and I misplaced the the charger. I ordered an official ASUS charger made for ROG G series laptops (claimed it was compatible with all G series laptops). Upon receiving it I noticed that the power output is slightly different. The old charger that came with the laptop had an output of 19V and 6.32A, while the new charger I ordered has an output of 19.5V and 9.23A. I was curious if the new charger I ordered would be acceptable to use or if I should return it and try to find a charger with exactly the same output as the original.

From a technical standpoint, you are just fine. If your old charger was rated at 6.32 Amps, then the new charger (which goes up to 9.23 Amps) can provide it just fine. For charger compatibility, the voltage has to be the same, while the amperage has to be the same or bigger.

From a practical standpoint, your old charger was rated for 19V * 6.32A = 120 Watts. The new charger is 19V * 9.23 A = 175 Watts. The new one is overkill, and is probably substantially bigger and heavier than your old charger. If the size/weight bugs you, you should probably search for a copy of your original charger.

From a safety standpoint, try to stick with genuine chargers even though they cost more. Avoid anything without the UL and CE labels on them (though knockoff Chinese manufacturers are not above putting fake labels on their products). Cheap, non-genuine chargers usually have not passed safety and FCC emissions testing. Not only do they have a risk of catching fire, they can put out EM interference which can degrade the operation of other equipment like radios and wifi hotspots.

the new charger was a genuine Asus product. the voltage on the new charger is 0.5W higher than that of the old one.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking that the difference in voltage may have to do with the fact that your laptop is a "GL" series, not a "G" series.

I don't think that extra half-volt will be a problem, and it's actually a good thing that the new charger is capable of delivering more current.

The correct one would have been the 120W version for $49.99
