Acer 5742 problems

I bought an Acer 5742 laptop last year. Right from the start when typing an email, the text jumps all over the place and if you are typing without looking at the screen you suddenly find you have been typing rubbish because the cursor has moved somewhere else - worse, it often Sends the email in the middle of typing.

Sounds like all that's happening is your wrists or balls of your hand are touching the touchpad as you type. I have the same problem with the touchpad location on my Dell. My wife's HP has a button to 'turn off' the touchpad, I don't know if the Acers do or not.
You just need to be more cognitive of where you rest your hands while typing unfortunately, it's not a computer problem. Hope that puts you somewhat at ease...
