Hello,
So I've been disassembling and cleaning my laptop for the first time two months ago, and i reapplied thermal paste on both CPU and GPU. Now after awhile I noticed that GPU is overheating extremely - 50C fresh after start, 60C after doing anything (like browser) and stays at it, 68-70C while watching youtube and ranges from 80-100C while playing games (even had 105C).

I've been searching a little bit and it seems i removed thermal pad from gpu chip and applied paste, but i left 4 pads untouched (covering memory or i dunno). Might that cause a heatsink not having proper contact with the chip? I've read that thermal paste is much better than a pad, can i remove the other 4 pads and apply paste on the memory(?) aswell? Is there any trick to check if the contact with heatsink is ok?

Here are some photos:

Original heatsink, i removed the brown thermal pad for GPU (if it is a pad, is it?) but kept the white ones.

This is gpu and the white pads fits on those 4 black rectangles around. Are those memory chips?

Side question. what is this black rectangle layer that was on CPU, could have I removed it? And it is normal that manufacturer leaks thermal paste all over the place like in the picture? Can't it damage the cpu? It was hard as a rock btw, took me an hour to remove it with alcohol.

Hi, If you take the heat-sink off again there should be little mountain looking things on it. Where ever the paste is still flat was not connected to the heatsink correctly. Paste is only there to fill the microscopic gaps between the core and heatsink allowing heat to transfer better. So you only need a small amount. It's also important to to reapply the paste after removing the cooler as there would now be air pockets affecting cooling performance.

Which paste are you using? Are you applying enough?
Only one paste can be used instead of thermal pads so you can replace any pads you find with it (including the ones on the memory chips). It is called K5 PRO.
Bought it about a month ago from Amazon and it actually did wonders for my pc. It is a bit old and it overheated a lot before I changed the pads with pastes.

They've made an instructional video in case you don't know how muck to apply
