Why, even when I use the desktop speaker icon to max-up the volume on my Acer Aspire 5742-6638, is the volume so low I can barely hear anything even if I put my ear directly on the speaker strip?

Also, my Acer Aspire 5742-6638 has been "crashing" approx. 7+ times every day, requiring me to restart and reload all the previously loaded pages. WHY? And, what (if anything) can I do to remedy these two issues?

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Start by uninstalling/reinstalling the Sound driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound driver.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver from Acer Suport site.
- Here's the link: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.6141_W8x64UW8x86U_A.zip?acerid=634862076174043170&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%205742&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6
- Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If it's still not producing enough sound do also test it a headphone or an external speaker and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If it's louder using an external speaker or headset that's an indication that it's a hardware problem.
- About the crashing issue I would suggest running a factory reset to reinstall Windows that's like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone.
- Please use this link on how to do a complete factory reset with your laptop.
