I have an Acer Aspire 5742Z, and when nothing is runing it is using around 70% CPU , which clearly overheats my pc after a while, I download a program to see the temps inside.
When not runninng anything the core Temp is 56 degrees, when watching a video on youtube this increases to 65-70 Degrees celcius.

I dissasembled it properly and cleaned the fans but this didnt change anything.
I tried a BIOS update , but nothing changed.
Any suggestions are welcome.

well something is using tons of CPU and normally that isn't a good sign. Are there any unwanted or large applications set to start on boot?

i am in no way, shape, or form a computer expert but if its overheating cooling gel couldn't hurt

Hi, go in the Task Manager, click Processes, and in the bottom left, click on Show processes from all users. After, click CPU on the fourth row, you will see the program who uses the most of the CPU.

It is a problem with the 5742's I'm afraid.

There are reports all over the web on various forums about their overheating issues.

I have a 5742 myself and it gets bloody hot under intensive programs.

I have installed "Core Temp" and idle is ~55'c, but it regularly goes to ~70C under load. Intensive programs cause it to run into the 90's.

Nothing better than a new fan/better fan/better cooling paste/better laptop will solve this.
