So I have an Aspire V3-571G and the left panel 3.5mm jack is broken due to a jack being broken in the port. I was thinking of sending it in for a repair, but it's 200 dollars just to fix the audio port, so I looked for another method. Luckily for me, I had a monitor with a built in speaker at home. I connected my laptop to the monitor using a VGA cable, but the sound won't come out. Is there a way to use the speakers in the monitor or will I never get sound from my laptop?

Solution
The VGA cable does not carry sound. You need to connect the monitor speakers to the laptop via the headphone jack.

If your display has a HDMI input, you can connect the laptop HDMI port via HDMI cable. HDMI does carry audio.
