Installed Windows 10 from an old ISO, all drivers were installed from the laptop's driver's DVD.
Drivers were new.
Windows update was downloading and installation started, it failed, shows some kind of error-failed to install update-try again....
after that touch pad is not working!!
Re-installed OS, still touch pad not working.
Everything else works fine.
Tried both 'basic' and 'advanced' touch pad modes in BIOS, still nothing.
Opened the laptop, the touch pad cable is still connected.
What to do ?
What happened ?

Touchpad not working? Try the following and see if it fixes it...

1. Go into "Control Panel".
2. Click "Hardware and Sound".
3. Now click "Mouse and Touchpad".
4. Now go to "Additional mouse options".
5. The Mouse Properties window will open. In here click on your device.
6. Make sure your device is set to enabled. If it isn't then click "Enable Device".
7. Exit both that screen and "Control Panel".

It should work now.

An OS re installation didn't help, this wont either....
The device is listed, and it shows active.

The external mouse works well. Drivers are latest, reconnected the touch pad cable from motherboard's end. The touch pad appear in devices list (and shows "This device is working properly.")!! if there was an issue with the connection, it shouldn't be visible in the list, right ?

Hmm... maybe. I have seen stranger things.

What has me thinking though is having problems after updating to 10 or updates in 10 I have seen before and it usually involves the drivers. Have you tried uninstalling them and letting Windows find new ones, rather than going through Acer?

Thanks for the reply,
I have re-installed OS , and followed the same driver installation procedure (using the provided CD), which worked first time. Also checked for the latest drivers using "Acer Care Center" application - it shows all drivers are latest.
Before installing the drivers, windows was unable to find suitable drivers.
