Advice on 12x4 studio mixers

I've done a variety of searches but haven't come up with good results.
I'm looking for a great sounding board for assisting DAW mixing. Less need
for recording as I have good pre-amps already but if in-board that's a plus.
Don't really need boards with effects. Would like step up in quality from
Mackie etc.

I've researched Soundcraft and Allen & Heath but haven't found the exact
combination of features that I am looking for. Close on some of their boards
and willing to compromise. Want great sound first.

Am running some 5.1 mixes so subs are a must which leaves out most of the x2
boards.

Any advice for other pro lines to investigate before purchase? Price point
under 2k and not interested in used boards that have been through the battle
years.

Thanks,
Bill

Whatever you want, you won't find exactly what you want and no more.
Mixers are made with a set of features to be useful to the largest
number of different users, so they can sell thousands of one model
rather than dozens or hundreds of several different models. Everybody
wins.

Look for a mixer that has what you need, and if you can afford it, buy
it. If you can't afford it, it isn't because it has an extra band of
EQ or an exter two aux sends, it's because that's what a mixer wtih
that number of gozintas and gozoutas costs.

To be honest, I don't think you're going to find a new 8-bus console
for under $2,000 unless you want to take a chance on one of the
digital consoles.

Hi Mike:
I don't need 8 buss, just 4 and I certainly won't mind extra features. I may
use them eventually. Any suggestions on companies besides these 2 that I
might look at for high quality lines. The 2k budget is not hard ceiling.

Just realized this was in the back room and wasn't being used. Best Offer.

I was thinking that since you were planning to use it to feed a
surround system, you'd want individual outputs for the channels, at
least five or six, more than four.

I was thinking of the small Crest series (gets mentioned around here
frequently - Roger has one so he'll remember the model) or the small
Midas (Venice series) but didn't suggest them because they're both
4-bus. But then I guess you could call that six bus since you have
four subgroups plus the main left-right.

Let me know when the second offer over $1000 comes in and I'll sell
mine.
