I really don't mind being seen in the nude (im a guy). while this may be the equivalent of a strip search it isn't terribly effective. there are other less intrusive methods that are far more sensitive like Mass Spectrometers (which are in use in some places), scent detection (everything has a chemical 'odor'), OR if they really want to use this technology take OCR or pattern matching AI technology and rely on it to parse the images. no human will ever see them!

[citation][nom]cathy911[/nom]This is a good idea, it's like from the future. They should just put cameras in everyone's houses to make sure their not terrorists. But there should only be women looking at cameras of children's bathrooms. I don't want to die from terrorists but I don't want there to be pedafiles either.[/citation]
So in your future world, there are no women pedafiles?

So you're saying we should all give up our rights?

You have turned 18, you can now...

1) Buy lottery tickets

2) Legally buy cigarettes

3) Forget any youth offenses on your drivers license

4) Have total freedom from your parents

5) Be sujected to genitalia scans at airports...

Awww wtf...

[citation][nom]okibrian[/nom]Again, this is the type of x-ray we are talking about:http://www.democraticunderground.c [...] 0_xray.jpg[/citation]
Ah, being informed changes everything.

It looks like a friggin untextured 3d model, that's SO PERVERSE.

People and their idiocy amaze me, and now we have singlehandedly made this tech useless because of people who were too stupid to look up the damn image.

I really wouldn't have expected the x-rays to product anything that bad. I'm not necessarily for or against this, but I do think there is some over reaction in the detail that these things would produce. And I have to say I agree that there are probably more effective ways than this.

Would it not be possible to remove a human from the link all together....I mean could not some kind of object recognition program be used in conjunction with the scanner which could bring to attention any suspicious objects....at least that way the majority could retain the dignity of not being seen by human eyes?

People!

Keep in mind that these devices are not designed to hold an image for very long. Especially long enough to DL images to a USB key.

Female operators are supposed to scan women, Men scans men, etc. Er... no children to scan children.

The quality of the "nudity" is pretty weak... its mostly fuzzy B&W ghost look with objects that show up that you can't see.

But it still creates a security hole... a terrorist can simply load up the kid with whatever illegal/bomb hardware. But of course, if its anything metal or chemical - the usual detectors should pick those up.

So this is simply a reason to make sure, that if the ones intending on doing anyhting during a flight passing through an airport with those scanner, they will have to involve and use a kid to do their dirty job. They should just permaban the whole thing already and do their inspection better instead.

Why not just put full time security on all planes? We can afford an attendant to sell us over priced samples of food and such, but security is too pricey? They should post pictures of the operators nude so we all have equal treatment. I think they should post pics of the political people who brought us this marvel of technology.

As long as the diffusion rate is known and can be made to take more hours than the trip through security pretty much any chemical or compound can be sealed inside a container with no sniffer that can get around it.

Some of these measures are silly. NO LIQUIDS!!! OMG!!!...

right...because its REALLY hard to take the chemicals onto the plane in powder form, request water from the flight attendant and reconstitute it in the bathroom...

Just more moron manuvers..."We have a great new scanning technology...but we're going to announce a way to avoid it completely!"

Why don't they just have 70 year old little old ladies watching the monitors. Obviously they could care less. Plus if you are a terrorist reading this isn't it obvious that you are thinking about just using 16 year olds to blow up airplanes?
