Alienware M17x R4 only reads blanco CD's and DVD's

So i wanted to install a fresh Windows 8 i went into the bios and selected boot from CD/DVD drive when i insterted the Windows 8 DVD from dell. It was reading it for 10 seconds with a wierd sound coming out of the pc and after the 10 seconds it spit it out. So i tried other CD's and DVD's and the only CD's and DVD's that were working were blanco disk with data on it or just empty disc's. I have already tried to remove the upper and lower layer from the first map only. I have already tried a CD cleaner the one with the brush that cleans ur lens. Is there anything else i can do?

I have a M17xR3 and R2 and both have problems with CD-DVD but not with blu-ray, the problem may be is the quality for this part of the laptop, you can't do anything, just change that part, and is a little bit expensive or try to use USB to instal your windows.

Tuve 2 laptop M17x R3 y R2 y ambas tienen el mismo problema en el lector de CD/DVD pero no con Blu-Ray. El problema esta en el lente y es por temas de calidad, te recomiendo cambiarlo aunque es un poco caro o tratar de instalar mediante usb. Practicamente todas las lap alien estan teniendo ese problema, al menos las 17"

Well, we search on eBay with a Alienware model and we found 1 from China if I remember right. Try to search on eBay or if you have enough money you can contact dell to buy another if they have. I have no idea what model have that part. Good luck
