I already have Easytune 6. I've unlocked the cores back then ran prime95. The temp quickly got up to ~70*C on the motherboard and ~60 on the cpu and the fan, for some reason, sstuck at 3000rpm. After a minute it "woke up" and was at ~4500RPM but the temps were still high. So I've locked the 4-th core and guess what. The temps never reached 60*C while in prime 95 and the games are smoothly running :D Anyway, I have a dillema. I 4 different softwares that I use to monitor the temps(everest, hw monitor, pc wizard and easytune). The motherboard temps is about the same on all 4 but the cpu and aux temp are different. For example, in PC Wizard the CPU is showing 38*C for the CPU while in everest that temp is for AUX. The AUX temp in pc wizard is 40*C while in everest that temp is the CPU temp. In easytune6 the cputemp is 58*C which is the motherboard temp in the other 3 sofwares. Now I'm downloading 2 more programs to see exactly which one is the cpu temp :sarcastic:
Oh, and in easytune6 the Graphics and Smart tabs are grayed out. Why?

one of the side effects of unlocking cores is the CPU temp sensors mess up. mine simply shut off altogether.

you cant really trust the temps it tells you anymore.

With my system, the CPU temp scores are bogus if you ask me. What you really want are the core values. In my case, the CPU temp (which is single) usually reads 10-15 degrees higher than the actual core temps. So, when my CPU temp shows 45 degrees, my core temps are usually around 30 to 35. I just did a lot of stress testing with Prime95 to monitor the CPU and core temps when I was running as an X3 which topped out at around 60-65. Then, when I unlocked the 4th core, I ran Prime95 again and watched the CPU temp. It stayed where it was when I was at 3 cores, so I knew that I was at max running 45 to 50 degrees even though it's stating it's 60-65.

Locked back the CPU to check the core temps. They are ~10*C lower than the actual CPU temp so that could be a good thing. Right now I've thought of something. Right now the temps(as an x3) are ~40 at idle and never reached 52 when playing games so that's also a good thing.I will lock the 3rd core and unlock the 4rth core. If the temps get higher with the 4th core unlocked then the ones with the 2nd core unlocked, that means that the 4th core is bad and it's producing heat. Gonna report tomorrow.
Good day!
---
ps: Is the max temp the same as the x2(70c)for the x3 and x4. And also, are the above CPU temps good for an x3?

With a good non-stock cooler (and good ventilation/air flow within your case), you can get idle temps as low as 27. I know when I'm running as an X3 with no OCing, my idle temps are around 27 and the max temps are around 40.

Last night, after adjust the voltage to 1.5, I'm running my X4 at 3.61 ghz with a multiplier of 18. My temps are around 32 degrees idle and 46 degrees on a full load under Prime95.

I think 1.5 is the max I'll go with my chip even though I'm going over the 1.45 that AMD states is the max. The main thing is to monitor the temps and in my case, they are within the allowable range.

I might try to see if I can bump up to x18.5 and possibly x19 without having to adjust the voltage anymore, but I doubt I'll get anywhere. I had to bump it up to 1.5 from the normal 1.325 range to get stability at 18. Otherwise, 17.5 is the max I can go without adjusting the voltage.

As for the max temp, for AMDs, they state 73 is the breaking point that you don't want to cross. In your case, even though it's an X2, running it as an X3 or X4 doesn't mean your max temp changes. For most, 70c is probably the highest you really want to go. If it gets that high on full load and stays there, I would throttle back. In fact, anything in the 60's is probably getting too close for comfort for me. Luckily, I'm not getting there.

I run my X3 unlocked 4th core at 3.2Ghz. and the idle temp ranges from 35 - 40C (depending on my room temp - right now since it is summer it is idling at 38C. under prime 95 it gets to 58C (this is also on my Gigabyte MOBO and using just the CPU temps reported by Easytune6 (the core temps while running as an X3 ran 8-10C lower than the CPU temp being reported so pretty much the same as what you say yours does !)

58c @ 3.2Ghz is way off, are those the temps you get with your TX3?

Yep -- mostly due to the combination of being in a warm room ( usually around 27C ) and the fact that the Gigabyte MOBO reports the CPU temp about 10C above the reading on the core temp reading so it is probably off a bit. -- (but since 58C is still plenty below the ceiling on max temp I don't really worry about it -- and since it stays around that temp without increasing after an hour or so of Prime95 but never reaches that high during gaming since the games rarely use 100% on all 4 cores !)

For Example while running the new Stone GIant DX11 Benchmark the CPU gets to 45C and the 5770 gets up to 64C with all the settings turned up high

Two days ago I've locked the 3rd core and unlocked the 4th. There was no increase in CPU temp at all! The iddle temps were the same. The full load temps were ~50*C. And no crash. This means that the CPU is just fine and the only problem is the cooling when the 4 cores are unlocked :bounce: So, got to buy a new cooler?

Then it's gonna take a while till' I gather some more money. Till then I've got to see the offers. So far I've found these as some good coolers:

Scythe Katana3, 92mm
and
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev. 2

Any other suggestions?

what case do you have?

One suggestion would also be to get another 2GB Ram module to match the one you have --- right now by having only a single Module you are running in single channel mode which slows the memory sub-system down quite a bit - by adding another same size\rated module you would be running in dual channel mode as well as getting the extra 2 GB. of Ram which would help performance.

Then the next step would be to replace the Power Supply --- I've never trusted a no-name brand unit like yours since a problem with it can burn out all of the other components - and a 500W unit with only 18Amps on the +12v rail is pretty poor --- This might also be the cause of your crashes since when it heats up it probably can not provide enough steady power to keep the system running (a good 500W unit would be enough to handle your system but most no name brands are really overrated as to what they actually provide and a lack of a steady power stream will cause instability !)

There is no system instability now but I thought about changing the PSU. Unfortunately, now I'm gathering money for a LCD Display. The next priority would be a CPU cooler, a new PSU and then some new RAM.
