In the last time from my last post the PC froze at random times(while watching movies, playing game, browsing)but it's happening really rare(like 2-3 times in a week). I've bought a new 23" LCD Monitor so now I am looking forward to buy a cooler. So far, I really like the Cooler Master 212+ but I need a few advices:
1)How do I pull off the old heatsink without breaking the CPU and how do I clean the old thermal paste?
2)Do I need to buy a 3rd party thermal paste for the 212+ or can I use the stock one?
3)How hard is the install process(removing back plate, adding the 212+ one etc....). Can you give me some step-by-step install tips?

That's all for now. I'm gonna buy in in the next month or so.

Yea the 212+ price is ridiculous, 4 months ago newegg had it for 29.99 with free shipping, at that pricerange I would rather get a Thermaltake Frio.

That's good -- Here it used to be $29.99 with free shipping just a few months ago so $59.99 + $8 shipping is a bit of an increase !! - If you can get it at a good price then it is definitely one to consider !

Oh, and another question. How will I mount the cooler? Vertically(|) or horizontally(--)? Also, where do I have to attach the fan? Near the DDR Modules or to the back of the case where I have another cooler?

The 212+ sits horizontally or vertically, you choose. Most people install it horizontally pushing the hot air out the rear exaust. If you decide to install it vertically then the fan sits on the bottom pushing the heat out the TOP exhaust.

As OC said you can mount it either way depending on the case you have (does it have top exhaust fans) but usually it is mounted so the air is blown through the Heatsink and out the back of the case (this way it also provides some good airflow over the Ram modules as well !!)

To answer your earlier questions -

1.) Run a game or benchmark test for about 5 minutes to heat the CPU\paste up to make it easier to remove - shut down and remove the heatsink (can twist the HS in a circular motion a few degrees to loosen the contact before lifting as well)

2.) The included paste is decent but you can do better -- Esp. right now while IC Diamond is giving away a free tube if you just run a few tests for them ( SEE HERE ) - definitely worth the bit of time to run the test for them as the Free tube they are giving away is enough good quality paste for about 10 applications !!

3.) The process is not too complicated if you know how to build your system ( Just a matter of keeping all of the wiring connections straight) -- See the Coolermaster website for a good video of the process ( LINKIE ) - go to the video tab for an installation video.

for a 159mm CPU cooler you will need at least a 190mm case

cpu cooler review

review 2

Thor's Hammer, Scythe YASYA and Cooler Master V8 seems to work very well with high temps.

you can also go for:

HYPER 212 Plus CPU Fan. Price is still around 25€, more than half of the thor's hammer's price, so if money is a problem go for hyper 212 plus. If I manage to get a thor's hammer this week I will tell you if it's really good (right now I have a Xigmatek Red Scorpion and temps go up to 57ºC when motherbord is at 31ºC)

I wouldnt buy a cooler that uses anything over a 120mm fan, its not necessary at all.

I use a Titan Fenir "single 120mm" pasted with MX-2 and this is the outcome (68/70F ambient) @ 3.8Ghz

Hi guys,
Im having a dabble at unlocking one of these 555 BE chips and was wondering who to beleive as far as the voltages are concerned.
Do i use the CPUZ value which i think includes droop ? Or do i set it to a Max of 1.5 in the bios ?
My chip unlocked straight away but wont do any 3d stuff. I put the voltage up to 1.45 but then thought i better check what was what first
Im using a GA-MA790X-UD3P with a Freezer 7 pro. I have plenty of Corsair power.
I did hear that some Bios's are better than others but then i have the option so it should work or not, right?
I have Bios 6.00PG according to Everest.

Thanks

disable load line calibration, if you have overclock maybe you should try to lower it, if your motherboard allows to disable cores individually, try to use one core at the time to see if they can work alone, if one cant you have to disable it permanently

My CPU is basically the same as yours with the exception of the multi. What exact issue are you having?

Thanks for the answers. The PC starts to freeze more frequently these days because of the room temp, and the CPU was not unlocked,so I have to buy that cooler fast. I don't have a Top Fan. I only have one exhaust fan at the rear of the PC. I don't think I understood quite clearly the vertical/horizontal thing but I've make this drawing:
So I should put my heatsink like that^?

Oh, and the voltage is 1.25V. Been like that for quite a while. I'll increase it. Again.

I think that would be vertical (not sure :p )

And I think you should take your case to a mecanician to make a hole at the top so you can change you power suply position. I did fry one at that position because my old CPU used to work at 60ºC and the power suply was sucking all the hot air and he just overheated.

That makes sense! The CPU produces heat, the heat is "thrown out" through the CPU cooler and vent and the PSU fan takes the hot air and therefore the system is unstable.
Since I will buy a new cooler, I don't think that it's necessary to cut a hole in the case because the new cooler will have the fan positioned horizontally so the air will be blown to the rear of the case. And no system instability :D
Yay, thanks again.
edit: I'm not sure, but is the stock cooler sucking air to cool of the heatsink or it's blowing out hot air from the heatsink?

my pleasure

yep, the hot air will be blown to the rear of the case... where the power supply's fan is :p

just put the hand on the back of the power supply and see if the air is getting out "fresh" or not; if with new cooler cpu temps stays under 50ºC you should be fine. If not... you will just need a 120mm square hole one the top, and maybe some small holes on the back for screws.

the stock cooler blows air
