Any Idea if this HP Pavilion dv9854ca LCD is fixable without spending money?

I found a cheap laptop that I am thinking of taking a gamble buying as the price is low due to it having a "broken screen." I am curious if this is a fixable (free) problem or if it's something like the video chip or actual physical damage to the screen, which would require replacing for more than the laptop is even worth.

It's an HP Pavilion dv9854ca. This is the pic that the seller has sent me:

Hi, I would say the problem is the screen or the cable, but you will need to change something in the laptop, no free repair.

Thanks. I have been asking on other forums and the general consensus is that it would be a waste of money. Therefor I have decided to pass on it.

Good choice, even if he gives you the laptop for free, you will have to pay something for the defective part, and you don't know which one and also if the laptop has other problems.
